Free Marketing ideas that compound daily

In marketing there are tons of things you can do on a daily basis.  Some of those things, such as classified ad posting, are like filling up a bucket with a hole in the bottom and have to be done everyday.  Some things, such as when you read this entire post and leave a comment, will have a compounding effect.
Videos
Youtube has to be the number one place everyone goes and can be a great place to start but don’t forget about Blip TV, Vimeo, Viddler, and UStream.  I’m sure there are many others but you get the idea.
Don’t put all your video marketing eggs in one basket.  In fact, I know of 3 different people who have had their You Tube channel deleted because of haters who like to flag marketing videos.  It’s also a good idea to save all your videos on a portable harddrive.

Blogging
The more blog posts on various topics you have all over the internet the better.  As with videos, it’s probably a good idea not to have all your blogging eggs in one basket either.  At the moment of writing this, I only have 2, one free and one paid platform.
Why pay for a blogging platform?  I choose to because I’m paying for my protection in essence.  Imagine having written over 5,000 blog posts only to have your blog hacked or deleted!
Leaving comments on other videos and blogs
Here is another biggie!!  When you leave a comment on people’s blogs and videos, it creates a backlink which benefits you and the other person.  I have found a lot of people who don’t want to do this and there is no valid reason to not leave a comment
The more videos, blog posts and comments you have out there equals the more people who will find you every day.  At first you may not get any results, but if you have a daily plan and just stick it out, eventually people will start finding you on a daily basis and you won’t be able to turn that traffic off!
You can start now when you leave a comment!

How to Turn Your Facebook Page Into an Insane Traffic Driving Machine

So you’ve probably set up a Facebook page for your business and you’re wondering how all of this engagement is paying off. Social media can be a major time waster if done incorrectly, and where is this so-called return on investment?
I work with so many business owners who don’t understand that you can’t just do social media to build your brand online. You really have to be social but at the same time you can’t forget to think about how social marketing plays a role in the customer lifecycle.
And it’s not just about publishing fluffy, shareable content purely to get noticed. It’s about building a profitable social marketing strategywhere you don’t waste your time (or money).
Facebook business pages are designed to help you connect with your audience while giving readers the opportunity to share your content with their community.
This doesn’t work so well when, according to Facebook, the average brand post only reaches 16% of fans.
But, you can cheat the system. Well sort of…

Let’s Talk About EdgeRank

You probably already know about EdgeRank if you read SocialMouths frequently, but just in case here is a quick explanation:
EdgeRank is the algorithm Facebook uses to determine where your post shows up in the newsfeed and how long it stays there. There are three main components that you should know about:
Affinity: By measuring how connected you are with the user or brand, Facebook delivers relevant content based on your ongoing relationship including any relationship your friends have with a certain page.
Weight: Facebook considers posts with photos or videos more valuable than posts with plain text or links. This type of visual content will rank higher in the newsfeed. Facebook also takes into account the level of interaction a particular post receives so the more people engage with your post, the more you can increase overall reach.
Decay: Social media is all about finding the latest and most relevant information as it happens and Facebook is no different. You will notice that most of your post engagement happens just minutes after publishing. Content quickly loses value as time passes to avoid irrelevant posts showing up in your feed.
Now that you know what EdgeRank is, manipulate your content to encourage engagement and spike interest in your Facebook community.
This means adding photos to your posts whenever possible. If you are posting about your latest blog article, add the featured image to your Facebook post and include a link in the message.
If you’re super fancy, you can add text to your image using Photoshop or even Paint so that your fans will know right away what your post is about.

Don’t Forget Your CTA

So now you’re wondering how all this talk about EdgeRank is going to help you drive more traffic to your website. If you can get your content seen by more fans, you’re on the right track, but you have to remember to add a “call to action.”
Don’t just assume your fans will click a link just because it’s there. Tell them.
Not only do you need to consistently produce amazing content, you need to hone your marketing skills and promote it effectively.
People won’t take action unless you tell them to and it doesn’t take much to be convincing. You just need to be specific.
Don’t simply copy and paste the title of your article into a Facebook post. Craft a message that calls out the value you are offering and why they need to read it now.
For example, for this article I would write my Facebook post like this:
“Want more traffic from Facebook? Click to read our latest blog post and find out how you can turn your brand page into an insane traffic driving machine: [insert link]”
instead of…
“How to Turn Your Facebook Page Into An Insane Traffic Driving Machine [insert link]”
Even though this post has a pretty awesome title, see how much more personable the first option is? Show your fans that you’re not a robot. You care about the content you publish and you want to help them solve real problems.

Follow the Rule of Thirds

The best way to increase traffic is to grow a community of Facebook fans that consistently expects great things from you. Publishing promotional content all the time is not going to convince your audience that you’re worth their time.
Following the “Rule of Thirds” will help you maintain a balance by making sure that ⅓ of your content is promoting yourself and your business, ⅓ of your content is engaging and builds relationships with your audience, and ⅓ of your content is amplification of outside resources and information.
Promotional content doesn’t have to be all sales talk. This can mean talking about an upcoming webinar you’re hosting or your latest blog post. It could be any content that talks about your products, services, or general business updates.
Engaging content is crucial to building a strong relationship with your audience and providing value through conversation. Show your fans that they matter to you and treat them like you truly care about any contribution they make to the conversation.
Amplify content from other relevant blogs or websites to show that you stay updated on industry trends and to avoid looking like you only post content from your own website. It’s a nice break for your audience and it will help them discover other useful resources and informational sites.
REI does a great job of sharing both promotional and engaging content as you can see below:
By consistently publishing interesting and relevant content, they have created a community of dedicated fans who love to engage with and share their posts, leading to more and more traffic.
Get to know your fans and understand what types of content they connect with most.
Don’t be afraid of a little trial and error.
Chances are the same content that performs well on your blog will do well on Facebook if you create clever headlines and promote it the right way.

Custom Facebook Tabs

With tools like Shortstack and North Social, it’s easier than ever to create custom Facebook tabs for your brand pages.
Growing your email list is so important to your business’s success online, so why not let Facebook do some of the work for you? You can design an email opt-in tab so that fans can subscribe without ever leaving Facebook.
You can also generate traffic by running a Facebook contest which allows you to give away prizes or reward fans with free content.
I recently launched a contest to help generate hype around my new website. I’m offering my consulting services to business owners and entrepreneurs in exchange for entering the contest and sharing their entry with their friends to get more votes.
This is a great way to generate awareness of your products/services while building your Facebook fan base and overall interest in your brand. Make sure you give away a prize related to your business so that you only attract your ideal customer.
After all, I hope you plan on collecting emails with each submission so you can grow your subscriber list and continue building relationships once the contest is over.
Check out the Facebook Page Guidelines before running any campaigns to ensure that you aren’t breaking any rules.
And don’t let the technical aspect scare you; it’s easier than you think and you can find tons of helpful information online to get you started. Make sure to sign up for Francisco’s free mini-course to learn how to build Facebook tabs if you haven’t already.

Promote Important Content

Running Facebook ads is hit or miss for many small business owners, but mostly because they often spend too much money and see minimal results.
If you are looking to generate a little extra traffic to an important page/post on your site, try using Facebook’s promoted posts feature which allows you to spend as little at $5 to get your message out to a wider audience.
That way your budget is small and the return can be big if you have followed all the recommendations from earlier in this post.
People are much more likely to trust and engage with a promoted post over an ad in the sidebar because it appears directly in the newsfeed along with other relevant content from friends.
This also means that it shows up on mobile devices while sidebar ads are only visible from a desktop or laptop.
If you’re new to Facebook ads, you don’t have to worry about ad targeting because with promoted posts, you only have the option to target your own fans and friends of fans.
It’s easy and well worth the small investment for that extra visibility when it comes to promoting important content on your page.

Now, It’s Your Turn

Do you consider Facebook a main traffic driver to your site? How do you engage with your fans to get the biggest return on investment?
Comment below and tell me one thing you want to better understand about Facebook marketing.

5 Key Ways to Engage your Facebook Business Page Fans

We've all heard that if you are in business, you need to have a Facebook Business page or Fan page.

Now that you've gone ahead and built your Facebook fan page, what's the next step?

If you build it they will come or will they?

If you now do nothing with your Facebook page, it will do nothing for you. Congratulations, you have a cyber-slug!

If you don't have the time to spend keeping your page updated, or you don't have the cash in your business to pay someone else to keep your page updated, you are wasting your time. It's that simple.

We are a fickle crowd. If you are not keeping your page current and populated with new and interesting bits and pieces to read, you won't be top of mind with those that have liked your page.

Without posting on your wall, your fans are not seeing your page in their newsfeed. Your fans will have to remember to find and revisit your page. They won't.

When was the last time you actively visited a page on Facebook purely because you thought of it?

Or did you see a post or comment in your newsfeed from a friend that caught your eye and you clicked through to find out more.

My guess is option 2. Most of us operate that way. We see what others are doing or talking about and then go and have a look see.

With that in mind, how can you apply the browsing habits of most online users to your Facebook page strategy to ensure people continue to visit your page?

1. Post 10 to 15 times per week

Yes, per week. Be on your wall posting articles, comments, questions, videos, photos, etc at least 10 to 15 times per week to keep your page fans engaged.

If you are not talking to your page visitors, someone else will be.

2. Post at different times of the day / different days of the week

Unless you know exactly when your page fans are online, make an effort to post at different times of the day and also, post on different days of the week.

By posting at different times of the day, you can make sure you are appearing in the newsfeed of your fans at differing times. People are online at different times of the day. Some like to early morning browse. Some jump online after lunch. Others do a quick catch up on what's happening at dinner time or when they've finally put the kids to bed and have a few moments to themselves.

Likewise, some people are more active on weekdays. Others browse on the weekend when things have slowed down at work.

Know when your target market is online and post specifically to tap into their peak browsing times.

3. Repost your content

It's perfectly fine to write one single article and post the same article to your wall 2 or 3 times. Just make sure you spread out the time between the posting.

For example, you may post an article at the start of the month and repost it at the end of the month. Why? No one can possibly be on Facebook 24 hours a day. There will be fans that would love to read your content but were not online when you first posted it.

Reposting gives people the chance to catch it on the second time around.

4. Post Content from other Sources

Be seen as in information dissemination. As well as sharing your own information, source material that you know will appeal to your target market.

If you read an article that was helpful to you in business, chances are, it will also benefit others. So share it.

Your Facebook page visitors will appreciate the gesture and may even on-share it, citing you as the reference point where they found it.

This is where the ability to tag in Facebook can be really useful. An article you found and posted can easily be shared as a link by someone else, with a tag to your page as a thank you for sharing. Win-win!

5. Respond to Comments or Questions

If someone posts a question or a comment on your page, reply. Sounds simple, but I'm amazed how many people don't even bother to visit their own page to see what is happening on the wall.

Engaging with your visitors is an ideal way to establish rapport and build up a following of loyal fans who will love to hear from you.

If you do this, chances are next time they have a question in your field of expertise, they'll ask you. Their friends will also see that they've posted on your Facebook business page wall and some will click through to see why.

Why Did you Build a Facebook Business Page?

Your aim when building a Facebook business page should be to generate traffic to your page, as a source of potential leads, clients and customers.

Your challenge is to keep them interested when they get there. Keep them engaged. Keep them coming back.

That way they'll see you as the expert and seek your advice and opinion when they have an issue to solve or question to answer.

Why You Need to Brand Yourself in Network Marketing

One of the most important tips I received as a new network marketer was that I needed to brand MYSELF and not my network marketing company. There are many reasons you need to be doing this but the most important reason to brand yourselfis to build trust with your target market.

People do not join network marketing companies, they join people.

Would you buy anything from someone you do not know, like or trust? Of course not.

This is one of the main reasons people struggle in network marketing. They are too busy trying to promote their company’s brand (their products, compensation plan, leadership etc.) and not themselves.

This is not their fault. The moment they signed up with their network marketing company they were told by their leaders that the best way to build their business was to shout their company’s brand from the rooftops. The problem with this strategy is that this is what EVERYBODY is doing. When you do this too, it makes you look like an amateur and very few prospects will be interested in you.

Why Brand Yourself?

Everyday there are thousands of network marketers on the internet searching for tips and strategies to help grow their business. They are searching to see how others are having success so that they can copy them. If you have yourself branded on the internet, these people will eventually find you. When they see you as a leader or a network marketing expert they will want to work with you. Remember, people do not join companies, they join PEOPLE

How To Brand Yourself

To effectively brand yourself you need to become a leader. To become a leader you need to provide value to other people. To provide value, you need knowledge. To obtain knowledge you need to do research by reading articles, watching videos, attending webinars etc.

When I was brand new in network marketing, I was quite the amateur. The important thing to remember here is that everyone is an amateur in the beginning. No one is immune. Everyone must put in the work to obtain the knowledge necessary for success in this industry.

As you acquire the knowledge you will be able to share it with others. You can do this by publishing articles for article directories, writing blog posts, recording YouTube videos etc. The more information you put on the internet, the more people will find it and in turn find YOU.

When you are branded all over the internet, people will see you as an authority figure, and building your business will become much easier.

I hope this tip on branding yourself provided some value for you.

5 Tips To Increase The Popularity Of Your YouTube Channel

As a YouTube video producer there is no better feeling than when you log into your account and see that one of your videos has been viewed by many people. In contrast, seeing the view count reading as zero can be very frustrating and disappointing.

Most of us get less views that we hope for, so how can we increase the popularity of our channels? Here are five techniques I use to increase the popularity of my YouTube channel and begin the journey towards YouTube success.

1. Get The Little Things Right

You should take the time to update your thumbnails, backgrounds and channel artwork to present a professional looking channel to any potential subscriber. There are tutorials online that show you how to create your channel artwork so your channel will look good on all types of screen resolution sizes and mobile device type. Work your way through the various YouTube video settings and ensure your branding is consistent and looks great. This gives you an instant look of credibility. Also take the time to create a channel trailer, which should be a short and exciting sales pitch for the type of content a viewer will enjoy from your channel.

2. Pick The Right Topic

What do you plan on making videos about? When selecting a topic, make sure that topic is popular on YouTube. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. People have popular channels about many obscure topics, so do your research.

Whichever topic you choose, you must be very interested in it. Making good videos is fun but also time-consuming. A genuine passion for your chosen video topic is an absolute must.

The passion you have for your topic makes a difference to the success of your channel. One great example is a YouTube channel where an amateur player goes through chess games played by chess grandmasters. The channel owner is open about not being a great chess player, but people watch his videos because he is so positive and enthusiastic about the game. He shares what he loves and people enjoy watching it, even people who are not chess players!

3. Invest in good equipment

Depending on your budget you may not be able to afford the best cameras, special lighting or professional editing software. You should, however, invest in the best equipment you can afford. As a general rule your videos will look better if you have more sophisticated equipment.

Practise and learn video editing techniques to enhance your video quality. Your best source of help in this area is YouTube itself, where there are many good videos on what equipment to buy, what software to use and how to use it. Remember to check when videos were made as technology and software improve very quickly and there may be even better options on the market for you to buy since that video was released.

4. Release quality videos consistently

The word 'consistency' is the life blood of excellent YouTube channels. The most popular video bloggers release their videos on the same day each week and usually in the same volume. Their subscribers know that a video is due at a certain time and look forward to it. Be careful not to fall for the trap of releasing many videos everyday whilst the channel is new and gradually losing interest until there are very few uploads, or even none at all. Your subscribers will expect consistency, so it is up to you to manage their expectations right from the launch of your channel with a realistic and sustainable quality and volume of video.

5. Engage with other Channels

Find other channels who produce similar content to you and comment, share and like their videos. Set up a twitter account for your channel and set up the YouTube account so a tweet is made each time you release a new video. Do not spam other videos with links to your channel, take the time to make proper comments and cultivate a relationship with other channels by private messaging the owners and asking questions.

Mention during your videos you like a certain YouTube channel and hopefully they will return the favour. Receiving a mention in a third party video on a popular channel should lead to an instant increase in views on your video, based upon their recommendation. If you follow the advice given above and your channel looks good, some of these new viewers will become your subscribers.

10 Free Traffic Methods

"Traffic" is one of those words that strikes a little bit of fear into most marketers. We all know traffic is power and power is money when it comes to making money on the Internet. The problem is getting this traffic has increasingly become more difficult as competition increases. More people are fighting for the same amount of traffic, luckily for you this list has been compiled. These are the traffic sources that have not only stood the test of time but also the ones that are most effect in 2014 thus far.

1. Forums - This is a golden nugget of getting traffic. Find forums in your niche and become an active and valuable member. Once you've laid the groundwork and you've become an authority on these websites, getting traffic is easy-peasy.

2. Blogging - All major Search engines are in love with blogs. This is the most effective source of traffic for lots of people. It takes great content and hard work to sustain.

3. Guest Blogging - Posting on blogs related to your niche and getting backlinks is great for getting extra trickles of traffic. Done alongside blogging it can lead to serious torrents of traffic

4. Email Marketing - Email marketing pays you to get more traffic. What's better than that?

5. Offline Marketing - Nothing beats plain old face to face. Get out there and start getting the word out in your community via flyers or going to local events and putting in work.

6. Answer Sites -Answer Sites such as Answers.com, Yahoo answers are more effective as they have decreased in competition.

7. Video Marketing - A Picture is like 1000 words, well a video is like a million words. Humans are visual learners and consumers of information. This makes it easy to literally "show" whatever you want. Its also profitable as you can go viral for very little investment.

8. Article Marketing - This could be deemed obsolete but there are soo many article sites that even if you get little traffic from each one it will add up to a massive amount. This method is also reducing in popularity as social media gains prominence so you might be able to cleverly use this to your advantage

9. Search Engines - SEO is still one of the best ways of getting the maximum amount of targeted customers to your website. Start with the major search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing

10. Social Media - This is by far the easiest and most popular method to get traffic in the modern era. Start by exploring Facebook, twitter, YouTube and Pinterest.

Now that you have these sources its up to you to utilize them to their fullest potentials. This means you will have to devote time to work hard at executing the strategies needed to succeed with these sources. You will also have to be focused and determined as time is always your biggest enemy. As a marketer getting traffic is a never ending battle and you should always be open to discovering and exploring new sources of traffic.

7 Ways To Drive More Traffic To Your Website

Traffic, traffic, and more traffic is one of the predominating thoughts when a website or a blog is new. Having a steady flow of willing to buy customers is the life's blood of the company.

There are actually a variety of ways that you could drive traffic to your website. Perhaps, some of the ways that I will list are ways that you are already using. When that is the case just skip right on past that suggestion and move to the next. Hopefully, this article will offer a way that you have not thought of yet.

The first method of driving traffic to your website that I feel I must mention is good old-fashioned search engine optimization (SEO). Do your keyword research and use the best phrases possible in your blog or website. Focus on using long-tailed keywords mainly because the competition for one to two words is pretty stiff. Make sure that you get your main keywords in your domain name. Don't forget to make use of headings and subheadings because they are very valuable. Make sure that they also contain keywords. If you don't know much about SEO then Google "The Beginner's Guide to SEO" by Moz. It's a free guide and it should be able to answer many of your questions.

The second method of getting traffic to your website is to offer free unique content that is really going to make a difference in the lives of your readers. I am sure that you know by now not to cut and paste content that you find elsewhere on the internet because that will only cause major search engines to drop you to the bottom of the pile. Make sure that your site is proofread very well. People will be less likely to want to link to your site if it has typing errors. You definitely want people to link to your site because that is one way that your website is judged (ranked). Speaking of offering free and unique content, save some of your content for article writing. Article writing is a good way to get traffic to your website or blog. Write informative articles and submit them to EzineArticles. Make sure that you put information about yourself and your company in the resource box along with a link to your website. If you are offering valuable information then others will re-publish your article and/or click on your links. People are still making a living by using articles to promote their website.

The third method of driving traffic to your website is to use social media. As you are adding really beneficial content to the web "tweet" and let other know that you have something really beneficial to say. Join Facebook groups that are in your niche. Actively become involved in the conversations and get to know others in these groups. In fact, don't just become involved start your own group and point people back to your site. There are people who have made large sums of money by just actively becoming involved in Facebook.

The fourth method of getting traffic to your website is to give plenty of freebies. The more that a reader gets from your site the more loyal they become. This is true especially if the freebies are really good. Readers will be more likely to link to your site and share you on social media sites if they have gotten something from you that really adds value to their lives.

The fifth method of driving traffic to your website is to use printed mediums. I realize that everyone does not have the budget for offline advertising. However, most cities and towns have community papers that don't cost as much as the major newspapers to advertise in. Google your state and newspapers and you should be able to find plenty of sources with reasonably priced ad space.

The sixth method of driving traffic to your website is starting and nurturing relationships with other people in your niche. Join forums and actively participate in the conversations. I know that a lot of forums require that you submit a certain amount of posts before you can actually leave links to your site. But that's OK. Just start participating and before you know it you will have reached the minimum posting requirement. Another way to meet people is to go to Meetup.com and find out if there are any groups in your niche that are meeting in your geographical area.

The seventh method of driving traffic to your website is to increase the number of times that you post to your blog. It has been proven that the more times you post to your blog the more traffic you get. If you really want to see an increase in traffic then start posting six times a week. (I have to note here that these days every website should have its own blog.)

If you have already previously seen the methods of driving traffic to your website that are listed in this article don't say that "I know that already" unless you have actually tried the method. Sometimes we frantically search through pages of information searching for the magic trick that will get us traffic instead of slowing it down and actually trying the methods that we have found. If you see a method that you have seen before but have not tried it then this is the time to turn things around by giving the method(s) that you put off a try.
